A blend made it in there! That's fantastic - thanks for that. I always say blends are every bit as good as the malts...

And that's a great sounding dram at number one (I see the distillery is 201 years old, just like Jura) but what a strength to be served at!

The Glenburgie, a worthy winner of Dram of the Year...but the Stoddarts?

J & G Stoddart took ownership of Glenburgie in 1927 and were subsequently acquired by Hiram Walker in 1930 (initially 60% but a big step for them as first acquisition) then Hiram Walker took ownership of Glenburgie in 1936 when they restarted production (it had been inactive since 1925)
Allied Lyons bought Hiram Walker 1987, then Chivas/Pernod Ricard took over 2005. (source Malt Whisky Year Book)

Never readily available as proprietary bottling GMcPhail were usually ones to bottle Glenburgie on behalf of proprietors. Usually supplies blends esp Ballantines but more obscure whiskies 'Stodart's, Stodart's crown special, Stodart's rare old highland'
The companies continued to operate as subsidiaries of owners and presumably they continued to use name of licensee Stodartfor Glenburgie (-Glenlivet) They were designated licensees of Pultney disillery too when owned by H Walker (C1950s)

No point having a decree to state NCF or E150. Those choosing not to do either can proudly state that neither exist in their whisky and let consumers decide for themselves. In the end, if whisky is indeed perceived to be better without both, the real winners are the consumers, which is what we all want, right?
